On Saturday night, Brentford’s Ivan Toney raced out of the West London Derby to win the Brit Award in south-west London, leaving fans confused.
The 27-year-old played the full 90 minutes of Brentford’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea at the G-Tech Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon, before being named Producer of the Year at the music awards ceremony at the O2 in Greenwich. – Awarded the Year Award.
But the striker’s attendance at the Blitz to present an award to London drum and bass duo Chase & Status alongside co-presenter Vic Hope left football fans confused.
One fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter): “Ivan Toney presenting to the England squad just hours after playing against Chelsea today…what a crossover.”
This achievement was also recognized by Northampton Town Football Club, an unlikely affiliate of British music’s biggest night.
They wrote: “Ivan Toney becomes the first @NTFC_Academy product to be awarded the Brit Award #ShoeArmy #BritAwards.”
Brentford sit 15th in the Premier League table, just six points clear of the relegation zone, but Tony still decided to spend the night at one of the biggest showbiz events on the British calendar.
One fan said: “A team fighting for relegation, dropping two points and training tomorrow and he’s there without a care in the world.”
This resulted in the reply “What do you want him to do lol”. Some football fans really think that football players cannot have a life outside of football. ”
Another fan said the Brentford striker was “doing a side quest”, while another joked: “That’s when there’s a game at 3 o’clock and the Brits have a game at 10 o’clock.”
The Producer of the Year award was an award given directly to the winner without going through a shortlist of other nominees.
Brentford’s next trip will be to Arsenal on Saturday night, followed by another away day at Burnley seven days later.
