Charlene Moseley of Ireland has been disqualified from the 400m final at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow.
Tipperary women’s Moseley finished third in the semi-finals, but was subsequently judged to have pushed Austrian player Suzanne Gall Wali.
The Irish team appealed this decision, but the appeal was dismissed.
Moseley’s bad luck capped off a bad night for Ireland as Sarah Healy crashed late in the heat in the 1500m.
The Dubliner led the way into the final straight and looked like he would qualify for Sunday’s final, but then he fell from first to fourth, with his legs completely failing just before the finish line.
In the 400m semi-finals, Moseley finished third in 52.16 seconds, behind Dutch woman Lieke Claver who ran 51.18 seconds, and 0.10 seconds ahead of American Talitha Diggs. did.
However, after expressing her joy at reaching the world finals, the Irish woman soon learned that she had been disqualified, with fourth-place finisher Gol-Wali qualifying for the final instead.
The indoor 400-meter race is often characterized by physical fights, but the appeals jury upheld the track umpire’s original ruling that Moseley did not hold the line when he made contact with the Austrian.
Earlier, Israel Olatunde was eliminated in the opening 60m heat as 6.70 seconds was not enough to advance.
