A moped rider opened fire while being chased by police in south London, injuring three people.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, two people were injured by shotgun bullets and three others were injured by mopeds, but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The force said officers were chasing the moped after it failed to stop in the Clapham area just before 5pm on Friday.
A firearm, believed to be a shotgun, was fired from a moped near Clapham Common South Side.
The suspects fled the scene and officers are searching for the moped. No arrests have been made.
London Ambulance Service said crews were called to reports of a shooting on Clapham Common Southside at around 5pm on Friday.
Ambulance crews, operations managers, advanced paramedics and London Air Ambulance took part.
“We treated three people at the scene, transported two to a major London trauma center and one to hospital,” the service said in a statement.
In a statement on its website, the Metropolitan Transport Authority said: “At 16:55 on Friday 1 March, police were chasing a moped that had failed to stop in the Clapham area.
“A firearm, believed to be a shotgun, was fired from a moped near Clapham Common South Side.
“Two people were injured by shotgun bullets and a third person was injured by a moped.
“While we await a formal assessment, at this stage we do not believe any of the injured are in a life-threatening condition.
“The crime scene has been secured and urgent investigations are underway to trace the moped. No arrests have been made at this stage.
“Firearms enforcement officers are searching the area.”
Several roads in the area are closed.
A local barber, who gave his name as Kaka, said he was “shocked” to hear the shooting near his shop, Chop Barbers, near Clapham Common.
“I was in the store just before 5 p.m. when I heard gunshots on the road. It was so close that we were all surprised. Then police were everywhere,” the man said.
