Photos of a captive rhinoceros, a Slovakian spa facility and a German finger wrestling champion have been named finalists and finalists in the prestigious Sony World Photography Awards 2024.
A total of 30 finalists were selected from the competition’s 10 specialized categories spanning portraiture, sport, landscape and environment.
The winners will be announced in April and a photo exhibition will be held at Somerset House, London.
The World Photography Awards holds several different competitions each year, including youth and student awards, and the national and regional winners were announced last month. This year’s program attracted more than 395,000 images, according to a press release. A representative for the World Photographic Organization did not say to CNN how many of these photos would be included in the professional contest, but said it was the most submitted in the contest’s 17-year history. .
In a press statement, jury chair Monica Allende praised the “diversity, high quality and breadth of creativity” of this year’s selections. “The jury was captivated by the passionate storytelling. It captures both the joys and challenges of human existence on our planet,” she added.
