Paul Scholes has reacted to Brendan Rodgers being called a “dinosaur” after he called a BBC reporter a “good boy”, insisting “this world needs to f**k up soon”.
Rodgers sparked a controversy that has angered women’s charities across the country by dismissing Jane Lewis’ questions when he pressed her about Celtic’s season after the 3-1 win over Motherwell. He has been criticized for his provocative remarks.
The Scottish Feminist Network branded him a dinosaur, while activists from Women’s Scotland accused the Celtic boss of “casual sexism” and called on him to apologize for his comments against the 53-year-old journalist. .
After an outcry over Rodgers’ comments, including from host Geoff Stelling, Scholes appears to be unhappy with the story, posting a photo on Instagram of himself apparently taking a bath and watching a news clip of the story. Posted on gram.
The Man United legend wrote: “This world needs to fuck up soon…goodbye!” Alongside a photo of him watching the debate surrounding the incident on talkSPORT, a caption read: “Brendan… It was accompanied by the words, “Rogers branded him a dinosaur.”
The story surfaced after Lewis asked Rodgers for clarification regarding the title fight, telling him “the story has already been written about this group, but we will write our own.”
When she asked him to elaborate, he expressed dissatisfaction with the question and said, “No, no, you know exactly what I mean.”
Lewis again asked Rodgers for an explanation, but Rodgers appeared to end the interview and said, “Good job, good boy, good job.”
The uproar over Rodgers’ comments resulted in two leading women’s activists issuing statements condemning him.
The Scottish Feminist Network said: “Jane Lewis was simply seeking to extract an explanation from Brendan Rodgers regarding his puzzling comments.”
“It’s very uplifting that the go-to attitude was condescending, but it’s really depressing in 2024. We thought dinosaurs were extinct.”
Campaigners from For Women Scotland called on Ms Rodgers to apologize.
A spokesperson said: “It is disturbing that casual sexism still persists in the sporting world.” Women’s achievements are undervalued, ignored, and their professional status is undermined. Rodgers owes the reporter an apology. ”
Meanwhile, former Hibs player Tam McManus described Rodgers’ comments on X as “utterly embarrassing”.
Celtic declined to comment when contacted by Mail Sport on Sunday night.
