A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man’s body was found in a house fire in south London.
Neighbors saw flames coming from the ground floor of the Streatham property at 7pm on Sunday as firefighters battled the blaze.
The body of a 49-year-old man was found in a block of flats on Glenister Park Road.
Scotland Yard believes the fire was deliberately started and is treating it as suspicious.
On Monday, February 26, a 34-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of murder and arson with intent to endanger life. She remains in custody at a south London police station.
An autopsy will be conducted within the next few days to determine the cause of the victim’s death.
DCI Kate Blackburn, who is leading the investigation, said: “We are in the early stages of the investigation and are working quickly to piece together the events that sadly resulted in the loss of a man’s life on Glenister Park Road last night. “I’m here,” he said.
“Detectives spent the day collecting footage from nearby doorbell cameras and other surveillance cameras. Extensive forensic testing is being carried out at the scene of the fire to determine how the fire started.
“We are appealing to anyone who witnessed any activity on Glenister Park Road between Drakewood Road and Streatham Vale at around 6.45pm on Sunday evening, or who has information about the incident, to come forward immediately. To do.
“Whilst we understand that tragic incidents such as this cause concern across the community, we believe this is an isolated incident and will continue to operate in the area over the coming days to provide reassurance. We have arranged for additional patrols.”
