While it’s true that some roads in London have signs that allow pavement parking, as a general rule you can expect to be fined between £65 and £130 for pavement parking in the capital.
Driving on pavement is already illegal across the UK, but penalties are rarely enforced. There is no specific ban on pavement parking, although the council can issue a fixed penalty notice if a vehicle breaches parking restrictions. Police can deal with obstruction charges, but enforcement efforts are spotty.
While the government is worried about pavement parking (and we’ve lost count of the number of consultations), Scotland recently introduced a national ban.
