Guy Sebastian says he’s always in fear of being cancelled.
Appearing on Kyle and Jackie’s ‘O’ show on Monday, the 42-year-old singer weighed in on the debate over whether Australian culture is worth celebrating, saying it was “stolen” from Indigenous peoples. He declined to comment.
When asked by host Kyle Sandilands for his thoughts on the matter, Guy deflected: “The first thing I wake up every day is I hope this day doesn’t get cancelled.”
Sandilands agreed that the singer was one of the least likely celebrities to fall victim to “cancel culture”.
“Literally, I’m probably the most likely.” [to be cancelled]” Sebastian insisted.
Host Jackie O agreed, saying celebrities who haven’t committed any indiscretions in the past tend to be targeted.
“You are held to high standards,” she said.
Guy recently joined his former Australian Idol co-star Shannon Noll, 48, on stage to perform one of Shannon’s iconic hits.
Guy and Shannon appeared on stage together at Guy’s concert at the Sydney Opera House in December.
The Voice Australia host called his fellow contestants onto the stage for a surprise appearance.
The singers belted out the Moving Pictures hit “What About Me,” which Shannon released as a hugely successful cover in 2004.
Several fans posted videos of the moment, calling it “iconic” and saying the pair were “Australian legends”.
Guy will return as a judge on The Voice Australia, alongside new coaches Adam Lambert, LeAnn Rimes and Kate Miller-Heidke.
