An American woman who moved to London expressed her dissatisfaction with her daily life there.
Seattle-born Naz (who goes by @mynameisnaz on TikTok) moved to the UK two years ago and describes some of the things that confused her.
The content creator, who works in the beauty industry, started her two-minute breakdown by talking about money, then moved on to talk about Britain’s drinking culture, work, and even tap water.
However, Londoners were quick to discuss cultural anomalies with TikTokers, with many defending London’s after-work drinking culture.
“Number one, they won’t fight over the bill,” she said in the video. No one’s running around trying to collect the bill, no one’s treating it, everyone’s paying for what they get, and that’s it. ”
“Secondly, everyone just has money. Certainly, if you live in London, you need to earn money for some period of time.
“But it doesn’t address the cost of living crisis at all that people seem to have bottomless funds for restaurants, vacations and activities.”
Nas was not convinced that the cost of living crisis was affecting Londoners, but he did feel that British workers were being disadvantaged in the workplace.
She claimed: She says, “People love working for free, and I’ve noticed that all a lot of freelancers and creators are doing is accepting the opportunity to get unpaid credit.
“I feel like a lot of employers are taking advantage of young, ambitious talent.”
Another complaint the content creator shared with her 22,000 followers was the prevalence of tap water.
“They love tap water!” Whenever you go out to eat, you end up drinking room-temperature water that’s been sitting out all day.
“It’s free, so that’s good and nice, but drinking only tap water is not that common in America. A lot of people buy bottled water.
“I think I’m just getting used to it these days, but I’m scared of what’s lurking in the pipes here in London.”
Nas also commented on the British and their love of booze.
she quipped. “We all know that Brits love to drink, especially after work, but when I’m in central London after 5pm on a weekday and the pub is full of corporate clones, It was the first time I had seen it.
‘I Personally, I think it’s a little scary. ”
Her final observations included commuting and struggling to keep up with London’s notoriously fast walkers.
“They want slow walkers dead!” As a professional slow walker, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been trampled, pushed, or shoved. ”
But the hairdresser insisted: “Regardless of all this, I love life in London.”
However, not everyone who watched the video was convinced that the points listed merited scrutiny.
“The money talk is a lie,” one TikTok user admitted. Trust me, I live in East London and he has £11.35 in my account. ”
“It’s a cost of living crisis,” quipped another. We don’t have money to fight over bills. ” Another user commented, “I guess he’s dating wealthy people.”
And some took issue with her judgment on weekday binge drinking. “People who are in the pub after her work are literally just having drinks and socializing and catching up.” It’s no big deal.’
However, the TikToker fired back, saying, “If you’ve never seen it before, it will definitely catch you off guard.”
One user felt that “buying bottled water is so wasteful and not to mention unnecessary”, while one admitted: “I’m a Londoner and if you’re a slow walker this is the hill you die on” .
