A dog has been posthumously stripped of its title as the world’s oldest dog after a controversy over its real age.
Guinness World Records (GWR) said there is no evidence that Bobbi the dog is as old as claimed.
Bobi, a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo, passed away in October 2023 at an estimated age of 31 years and 165 days. The lifespan of this breed is usually 12-14 years.
The group said the microchip it claimed to prove Bobi’s age was not sufficient evidence to award him the title, which was awarded in February 2023.
Bobi lived on a farm in the Portuguese village of Conqueiros with his owner and four cats.
GWR said:
