Two people with very special height records met in Irvine on Monday, according to Guinness World Records.
They are Sultan Kosen, 41, and Jyoti Amge, 30, who are the world’s tallest man and shortest woman on record, according to the Guinness Book of Records.
Sultan Kosen from Turkey is 8 feet 3 inches tall and Jyoti Amge from India is 2 feet 7 inches tall.
In the photo taken in California on February 19, Jyoti is standing next to Sultan’s shoes, and she is about the same height as the woman.
The two record holders last met in Egypt six years ago. There is over 6 feet difference in height between the two.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, Sultan’s height is caused by a condition called pituitary gigantism, which causes his hands to become large, his bones to be abnormally thick, and his joints to hurt. Additionally, the Sultan holds the record for the largest living human hand with his 11.22 inches (28.5 cm).
According to the official Guinness Book of Records publication, Jyoti’s short stature is “due to a form of dwarfism called achondroplasia, which prevents her from growing beyond a certain height.”
