Mohammad Hafeez, who was associated with Pakistan as director of cricket and interim coach, has made a shocking revelation. After he was removed from his post, he threatened to expose the players.
In a recent statement on cricket show ‘The Pavilion’, he accused Babar Azam and Mickey Arthur of ending the fitness culture within the team. The veteran said the players who played in the Test series in Australia were ineligible.
“When I went to Australia, I told the players to be careful about their fitness levels. I also asked the trainer about the fitness of the players. He said something shocking to me. Six months ago, the captain (Babar Azam) and director of cricket (Mickey Arthur) told me to stop checking the fitness parameters of the players and let them play the way they want.
*When we checked the athletes’ fat levels, all of them had high skin folds. They were unfit for exercise and some were unable to complete the two kilometer trial. The decision taken six months ago overturned the standards set when it came to fitness. If your fitness is like that, you will lose,” Mohammad Hafeez said on the show.
Wasim Akram and Misbah-ul-Haq were shocked to hear Hafeez’s words. In the T20I, Pakistan lost 3-0 to Pat Cummins’ team, but New Zealand defeated Pakistan 4-1.
Babar will step down as captain after the 2023 ICC World Cup in India. Babar was on the verge of being sacked as Pakistan failed to qualify for the semi-finals. Meanwhile, Mickey Arthur was offered a transfer to Pakistan’s High Performance Center, but he declined. He parted ways with Pakistan cricket.
Pakistani players are currently playing in Pakistan Super League 2024.
