Glen Ellen, California — Spanning more than 1,500 acres, Jack London State Park offers outdoor enthusiasts the opportunity to walk, hike, mountain bike, and even horseback ride 30 miles of trails.
“Sonoma Mountain is one of the most beautiful and ecologically rich parks around,” declares Executive Director Matt Leffert.
This park in Glen Ellen also has a rich history. This was the home of author and adventurer Jack London.
Volunteer Jeff Falconer describes him as “one of the most successful and popular American writers in the world during his lifetime.”
Best known for books such as “The White Fang” and “The Call of the Wild,” London wrote 53 novels during his lifetime.
“And countless short stories,” Falconer added.
Visitors can step back in time and explore historic landmarks related to the writer’s life, including the ruins of Wolf House.
“The 15,000 square foot mansion that he and his wife Charmian were building to live in,” Falconer said, “was an incredible structure that unfortunately caught fire a few months before they moved in. “I’ve lost it.”
You can also tour Jack and Charmian’s cottage mansion.
“You’ll see their living quarters, Jack’s study, and the beautiful dining room where they entertain friends,” Falconer said.
