CAIRO, February 18 (Xinhua News Agency) – The Spring Festival, or Chinese New Year, is a great event to promote cultural exchanges, said Ahmed Salam, a China affairs expert.
The festival, which features family reunions, is a remarkable traditional festival that is embedded in the core of Chinese culture and civilization, Salam, who is also a former media consultant at the Egyptian embassy in Beijing, said in a recent interview. He told Xinhua.
He said various Chinese New Year cultural practices are also observed in other parts of the world, such as hanging red decorations and motifs on buildings and roads, wearing red clothes and setting off fireworks.
A resolution by the United Nations General Assembly in December officially marks the Lunar New Year, or Spring Festival, as a floating holiday on the United Nations calendar of conferences and conferences from 2024.
Salam said the UN resolution shows the influence of Chinese civilization, considering that one-fifth of the world’s population celebrates this festival.
He added that it embodies the international values of Chinese culture and civilization as an integral part of the global cultural fabric and will help strengthen exchanges between diverse civilizations around the world.
