Several electronic gadgets, including a spy camera pen, were found in the cell of a National Security Act (NSA) detainee in Assam’s Dibrugarh Central Jail on Saturday. The detainees include 10 members of the pro-Khalistan militant group Waris Punjabi De (WPD), including its chief Amritpal and one of his uncles. It is. They were arrested from various parts of Punjab during the NSA’s crackdown on the organization and have been in jail since March 19 last year.
Police Commissioner Singh said a search of the premises was carried out by prison officials based on information indicating foul play.
“There was information received of confirmed fraud, based on which prison officials searched the premises of the NSA cell early this morning and carried out a search of smartphones with SIMs, keypad phones, TV remote controls with keyboards, spy camera pens, pen drives, etc. , which led to the recovery of Bluetooth headphones and speakers, “smart watches legally seized by prison officials,” he posted on “X”.
According to a top police official, prison officials have seized the items and an investigation is underway to determine the source and method of directing these illegal items.
DGP Singh posted on ‘X’ that following the receipt of information about irregularities being carried out in public areas of NSA block, additional surveillance cameras have been installed in the block. He further stated that he is taking additional legal measures and precautions to avoid such incidents in the future.
Notably, the DGP did not specify that the electronic items were recovered from WDP members in prison.

Increased security at Dibrugarh prison
News agency PTI said a multi-layered security system had been put in place at Dibrugarh prison since the arrival of militants from Punjab, including installing additional surveillance cameras and repairing or replacing broken cameras.
