According to the website, homes in London took on average twice as long to sell as homes in Scotland last year.
According to Zoopla, the average sales time in 2023 was 34 days from when a property was first placed on the market until the sale was agreed under contract.
The average time to sale was 20 days in Scotland and 40 days in London.
The difference primarily reflects home affordability and the impact of higher mortgage rates on purchasing power in more expensive markets, the website said.
However, it added that the recent fall in mortgage rates had led to particular activity in the south of England, particularly London.
Last year, home sales took about two weeks longer than in 2022, when the average time was just 20 days.
Even if the sale is agreed, it may take another three to six months to receive the keys to your new home.
Zoopla says it’s off to a strong start so far this year, with buyer demand up about 11% year-over-year.
This figure compares demand for the four weeks ending February 7, 2024, with the same period in 2023.
Demand is defined as potential buyers who fill out a form on Zoopla’s website to inquire about a property listed on Zoopla and contact an agent to arrange a viewing.
The website has also seen an increase in the number of new homes listed for sale.
New home sales flow was up 10% from a year ago and the highest since 2020, according to Zoopla.
According to Zoopla, the average number of days it took to sell a home last year was:
Scotland, 20 years old
Northeast, 30
northwest, 31
West Midlands, 32 years old
Yorkshire and Humber, 32
Southwest, 34
Wales, 35 years old
East of England, 37 years old
East Midlands, 38
