Ora ela Bora.…“Pray and work.”
This is the motto of the Rule of St. Benedict, written in 516 by Benedict of Nursia, the famous founder of Western monasteries. For 15 centuries, Benedictine monks lived their lives according to this motto, performing physical labor and praying to God. Many lay people likewise take this motto to heart, forming lay Benedictines or simply observing the “rules” in their daily lives.
“St. Benedict realized that the world was in ruins, both physically and socially,” said the great churchman John Henry Newman, “and his mission was to restore it. It was…quietly, patiently, gradually.”
in imaginative conservative, We likewise strive to preserve the goodness, truth, and beauty of the Western tradition.
