HYDERABAD: The 10th Hyderabad Rockathon was held at Forestrec Park in Narsingi on Sunday, with around 150 participants taking part in a day of adventure and fitness challenges.
Activities such as rappelling, ziplining, rock walking, rock shot putting, and slacklining captivated participants and created an atmosphere of excitement and physical fitness.
Organized by Rock Conservation Society and Great Hyderabad Adventure Club (GHAC), the event was supported by Telangana State Forest Department Corporation (TSFDC) and Telangana Tourism Board.
Dr. G. Chandrasekhar Reddy, Secretary to the Chief Minister and Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, TSFDC, inaugurated the rappelling event, while WEF India State Representative Farida Tampal inaugurated the rock walk.
Mohammad Ahmed of GHAC said, “It is heartening to see people of all ages participating and enjoying the program in this hot weather. We at the Hyderabad Rockathon organizing team are deeply grateful for the extensive support. He expressed his gratitude for their enthusiastic participation. TSFDC and Telangana Tourism Board and for enabling implementation of the enriched programme. ”
In addition to snake awareness sessions, the event featured a variety of activities including rock balancing and rock quizzes. Participants gained awareness about the rocks and rock formations of the Deccan region, which are approximately 2.5 billion years old.
“These geological formations play an important role in influencing the groundwater table, flora and fauna, and providing essential lung space for ever-expanding urban areas. It’s a feature,” Ahmed said.
The Hyderabad Rockathon not only celebrated adventure and physical challenge, but also served as a platform to educate participants about the ecological importance of the region’s rocks.
“As Hyderabad continues to grow, events like this play an important role in fostering awareness and appreciation of the natural wonders that surround us,” Ahmed concluded.
