A free event to share Japanese culture will be held in Preston.

Organized by the University of Central Lancashire, the day celebrates 10 years of promoting Japanese studies and culture at the university.
Visitors to the family-friendly UCLan Japan Day will watch live performances including Soran Bushi collective dancing, martial arts, J-Pop dancing and spectacular taiko drumming.
You can also join the catwalk in your favorite Japanese-themed costume and learn how to play the drums.
Family-friendly workshops include samurai helmet making, anime photo booth, picture-story show, calligraphy, furoshiki wrapping, Japanese experience, and more. There are also exhibits created by Japanese elementary school students that you can tour.

For adults, in addition to the language experience, there will also be a tea ceremony and a chance to try on the traditional Japanese kimono. Visitors can also see how quickly Japanese students at UCLan are progressing in language learning, and find out how Japan’s popular culture, anime and manga, is being explored.
Participants will also have the opportunity to experience running their own Japanese-themed shop and explore employment opportunities with JET (Japan Exchange Education) representatives.
UCLan first hosted Japan Day 10 years ago and since then hundreds of people have attended the annual event, including high-profile ministerial visitors from Japan.
Organizer Takako Amano, Senior Lecturer in Japanese Studies at UCLan, said: There will be activities and performances for everyone to enjoy. From extremely talented collective dance performances to authentic taiko drumming.

The event will be held on Saturday, February 24th. Attendance is free, but morning slot tickets and/or afternoon slot tickets must be booked in advance through Eventbrite.
Part of the day will include BSL (British Sign Language) interpretation, and one of the workshops will include a demonstration of BSL and Japanese Sign Language.
