A man was arrested with a machete after a dramatic police chase in south-east London today.
The Metropolitan Police’s Targeted Crime Team located the male suspect on Saturday afternoon.
The man initially attempted to evade arrest by leading officers away on a moped through a back street in south-east London.
However, the chase ended abruptly when the man crashed into his car.
He was arrested by police in Lordship Lane, Southwark, just after 3.40pm, where he was found to be in possession of a large knife.
Police said the man was taken to a hospital to be evaluated for head injuries, but the injuries were not considered life-threatening.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “Just after 3.40pm on Saturday, February 10, a man was arrested following a police pursuit in Lordship Lane, SE22.”
The man who crashed the moped he was riding was arrested with a large knife.
“Prior to being taken into custody, he was taken to hospital to be treated for a head injury. His condition is assessed as not life-threatening.”
A road closure was implemented at the intersection of Lordship Lane with East Dulwich Grove Road.
The Metropolitan Police Department is investigating the incident.
