Peterborough Chinese community group wins King Award

An organization promoting Chinese culture is celebrating after winning the highest award for volunteer work.

Faustina Yang, founder of the Peterborough Group’s Chinese Community, accepted the King’s Award on behalf of the group.

She founded the organization to help her daughter, Ilya Reverie, cherish her Chinese heritage.

Receiving the award at the city’s cathedral was “really, really special,” she said.

“We are really proud to be the only organization in Cambridgeshire to win this award this year and the only Chinese community group to win this award nationally. This motivates us to go the extra mile. It will be.”

“This group was born out of my desire to instill in my daughter a deep understanding and appreciation of Chinese heritage, given my bicultural family,” said Yang, whose husband is British. Told.

One of the ways the group has been sharing its traditions is through tai chi, conducting online sessions during the pandemic that have amassed thousands of followers.

“We have done much to promote inclusivity and diversity and tackle hate crime. Our greatest offering is to bring Tai Chi to the wider community.

“To open the doors of our own culture for other people to experience, hoping to create awareness and understanding.”

It was the first time such a ceremony had been held at the cathedral, and included demonstrations of Tai Chi and performances of traditional songs by professional singers.

Mr Jan, who came to the UK 20 years ago, paid tribute to the city he now calls home.

“I think Peterborough is a very diverse and welcoming city – there are so many different cultures and nationalities.

“We have a lot of people working together to find solutions to make it a better place for everyone.”
