At best, potholed roads make for a bumpy ride. In the worst case scenario, this could cause serious damage to the vehicle or personal injury. And like the rest of the UK, London is full of potholes. But did you know that one of London’s boroughs has more potholes than anywhere else in the country?
Well, it’s true. According to data experts at Smart Survey, London boroughs lead the way when it comes to the total number of potholes. Smart Survey pulled the data from his FixMyStreet.com, where locals can report potholes, graffiti, fly tumbles and more.
As of last week (January 29th to be exact), the north London borough barnet Apparently there were 4,656 potholes on the road. Additionally, the “fix rate” is only 32.6 percent, meaning that the majority of these potholes are not fixed.
So why is Barnett so bad in the hole? Well, there could be several reasons. Not only is it a large borough (logically, there are lots of roads), but car ownership is also quite high, with some huge and busy roads such as the M1, North Circular and Finchley Road. There are.
Barnet Council is clearly not too happy with Smart Survey’s findings. Councilor Alan Schneiderman said: “We are proposing to invest more than £100m over five years in repairing roads and tackling potholes.”
“The data cited also misrepresents the facts. The most urgent potholes are repaired within 24 hours, others within 7-28 days.
“Barnet has one of London’s largest road networks and is disproportionately affected by potholes. Barnet has the highest number of daily vehicle movements in London, 1000 of which are HGVs.”
Barnet is not the only London borough with potholes. Last year, Islington was again named Britain’s ‘pothole capital’. You can read about that here in Time Out.
