Camila Mendes stole the show alongside Marisa Tomei at the Upgrade premiere in New York City on Wednesday.
The Hollywood beauties dominated the Big Apple screening of Amazon Studios’ latest romantic comedy, in which they both star, turning heads in stylish black outfits.
The Riverdale alum, 29, wore a stylish jumpsuit with a plunging neckline and opted for a virtually no-makeup look that let her natural beauty shine.
As if she had just stepped off the runway, Spider-Man actress Marisa, 59, stunned in a skin-tight strapless dress.
The star-studded soiree also featured the film’s director Carlson Young and cast members Archie Renaud, Rachel Matthews, Lena Olin, Saoirse Monica Jackson.
Carlson turned heads in her cream-colored satin frock, which she paired with a simple black suit jacket and matching military boots.
Rachel dared to impress in a sparkling pink babydoll dress that featured a black feathered bow at the neckline.
Jonathan Cheban, one of Kim Kardashian’s best friends, appeared on the red carpet wearing an olive jacket and faded denim.
Upgrade was written by Christine Lenig, Justin Matthews, and Luke Spencer Roberts.
In it, Camila plays Ana, an art lover trapped in the ungrateful position of assistant to formidable art mogul Claire Dupont (Marisa).
Due to a coincidence, Anna ends up accompanying Claire to London to arrange an auction.
During a first class flight, Anna meets charming Englishman William (Archie Renaud), and the two bond after a spilled drink encounter.
But their budding romance is complicated when Ana tells a harmless liar that she is a director of his company.
Complicating matters is that William’s mother, Catherine LaRoche (Lena Olin), owns the collection being auctioned off.
Last week, Camila revealed she would love to play the role in an interview with CBS Morning’s Gayle King.
“I once worked as an intern at a talent agency, so I can empathize with her, but the reason I wanted to play her is because she is so ambitious and passionate about her work.” ‘Cause I feel the same way about acting,’ she said.
When asked by Gail to elaborate on her passion for acting, the star replied: “I love acting. So I didn’t have to go through the phase of “What do I want to do?”
“I was clear that I wanted to be an actor and I was always stubborn about that goal.”
Since the film deals with “coincidences,” Camila was asked if she could relate to the events in her life.
“I definitely relate to that as well. I think serendipitous moments happen all the time that change the course of my life, and this movie is a great example of that.”
Camila also revealed why she wanted to do a romantic comedy in the vein of ’90s romantic comedies.
“People always like to talk about ’90s romantic comedies, and people are so nostalgic about them. So whenever I do a romantic comedy, I always think about what was so magical about old romantic comedies. “We’re trying to focus on what’s going on,” she said. Began.
“And I think a big part of that is having good chemistry and having witty banter between the characters and trying to keep it as nuanced as possible,” she continued.
“I think romantic comedies these days have become very formulaic. It’s great to explore how you can be a little different and break out of that mold.”
Camila also revealed how she learned the ropes of Hollywood on Riverdale.
“It was like an acting boot camp, because shows like that don’t really exist and may never exist. Teen shows or network shows for teens that have been going on for years. and so on,” she explained.
“I don’t think that happens very often anymore,” she continued.
“So I’m very grateful to have had the experience of coming in every day and being able to do what I love, deliver, learn, grow, and develop my skill set. ”
“It taught me so many technical things that when I go into other projects I’m like, ‘Oh, Riverdale taught me that.'”
