Harold noted that the decision to check into a hotel rather than stay with family “didn’t make sense” from a safety perspective.

“If he was staying in a royal residence, security would already be there,” Harold said. “If he’s staying in a hotel, he’ll need his own security team.”

The father-of-two now travels with his own security team, despite famously stripping his father of his right to taxpayer-funded police protection after the Sussexes quit royal life in 2020. There is.

The royal expert added that the duke’s “surprise” 24-hour visit will no doubt draw attention to the brothers’ current relationship and will not help quash rumors of a feud.

Mr Harrold added that the king “would have liked to have stayed longer” and claimed it was “possible” that Harry’s stay in London was deliberately kept short to avoid further meetings.

The duke is scheduled to fly to Canada with Markle next week ahead of an Invictus Games training camp.
