At last year’s World Championships, Mohamed Kathir lost to Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigsen in the 5,000m final, finishing runner-up.
World track and field 5,000m silver medalist Mohamed Khatil has been provisionally suspended by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for missing three doping tests.
The 25-year-old Spaniard is the indoor 3,000m world record holder and European record holder over 5,000m.
Athletes will be required to record their whereabouts to support unannounced out-of-competition testing and will be in violation if they miss three tests in a 12-month period.
Katil, who won bronze in the 1,500 meters at the 2022 World Championships, plans to appeal the sanctions.
Kathir said in a statement that he has undergone a number of out-of-competition doping tests in recent months, including both urine and blood samples, with “no issues”.
“We do not believe there have been any violations due to the three location failures in the past 12 months,” Kateel said.
“For some of the location failures reported by the AIU, I was able to respond to the location, date and time that I provided.
“It is important to keep in mind that we are not dealing with a case of doping rule violations or even evasion of out-of-competition doping regulations through the use of prohibited substances or methods.”
Following the athletes’ statements, the Spanish Athletics Federation (RFEA) reiterated its commitment to “strict compliance” with the anti-doping framework and said it would “continue to pay close attention to the decisions adopted by the competent authorities.” Stated.
