The two age-group tournaments form a key part of the international federation’s investment in increasing the competitiveness of world rugby by providing talented young players with a meaningful pathway to elite level. This high-profile tournament, first held in 2008, has seen more than 1,550 players play on this stage, including 32 of the Rugby World Cup winners before making their Test debuts.
The 2024 World Rugby U20 Championship will be held over five matches in Stellenbosch and Cape Town in the Western Cape region. The world’s best 12 nations were divided into three pools of four teams each, and three-time champions France were placed in Pool A along with New Zealand, Wales and Spain, who will be playing for the first time after winning the 2023 World Rugby U20 Trophy.
The Junior Springboks, who won the bronze medal thanks to their outstanding defense and forward performance, will be looking to repeat their good results on home soil and will face England, Argentina and Fiji in Pool C, with the 2023 runners-up in Pool B. Includes Ireland, Australia, Georgia, and Italy. .
The final will be played at Cape Town Stadium on July 19th.
