Prince Harry would have “happily” accepted a meeting with Prince William, but instead spent the night in a London hotel.
The royal family returned to the UK from California to meet King Charles after he was diagnosed with cancer.
Before the king flew to Sandringham, he is said to have enjoyed a “warm” meeting with his father at Clarence House.
However, there are reportedly no plans for the feuding brothers to reunite.
A source close to Prince Harry said: “The prince’s main reason for visiting the UK is to visit his father. If he had the opportunity to meet the Prince of Wales, he would have been happy to do so.”
Prince William is focused on caring for Kate after abdominal surgery, which has kept her in a London clinic, and the king also underwent treatment for his prostate before tests revealed he had cancer.
Harry lost Frogmore Cottage in Windsor and did not stay in the royal residence. According to reports, he appears to have stayed at a luxury hotel.

He is not expected to remain in London for long, so it seems unlikely that he will be able to mend his relationship with his brother.
Meghan left Meghan and her two children, Archie, 4, and Lilibet, 2, in Montecito after the king called her to tell her the diagnosis.
The Sussexes will travel to Canada next week to mark the one-year run-up to the Invictus Games.
Meanwhile, Prince William will attend an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle on Wednesday morning, followed by a London Air Ambulance gala.
The palace has not disclosed what type of cancer the king has or what treatment he is receiving.
He is said to be doing well, with a source telling The Sun that if they didn’t know him, “you wouldn’t have known anything was wrong”.
