The Sephora Beauty Grant is a $100,000 award and one-year mentorship program designed to support and empower Black-owned luxury beauty brands in the United States. This grant reflects the retailer’s continued commitment to creating something for everyone in beauty and requires at least 15% of major retailers’ shelf space to be dedicated to dedicated shelf space. It is part of an ongoing partnership with the advocacy nonprofit Fifteen Percent Pledge. to black-owned businesses.
In June 2020, Sephora became the first major retailer to earn the 15 percent pledge and has since doubled its selection of Black-owned brands, including hitting the 15 percent benchmark in luxury hair care last year.
Founded by Malaika Jones and co-founders Ty Beachum and Nia Jones, Brown Girl Jane was one of more than 275 grant applicants evaluated based on brand vision, product, values, and historical impact, among other things. The winner was selected from among them.
