FIFA has announced that the opening match of the 2026 World Cup will be held on June 11th at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City.
Details of the tournament, which will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico, were revealed on Sunday.
Mexico was given the privilege of opening the tournament against the backdrop of the iconic National Stadium.
Pele and Diego Maradona won the World Cup with the Aztecs.
FIFA also announced that Canada’s opening match of the tournament will be played in Toronto.
